The inaugural Cashion Cup Solo Series took place Saturday March 6, 2021 on Saguaro Lake just outside of Phoenix, AZ. Local lake and jurisdictional covid protocols saw a smaller than expected field take off for a beautiful day on the water.
Taking the win with only four fish was local angler Ricky Romano. Ricky brought in four fish for a total weight of 18.63lbs which was anchored by the days second place big fish. The 6.77lb largemouth earned Ricky an additional $125 on top of his first place winnings of $1,450 for a total of $1,575 plus a new Cashion Icon fishing rod.
Second place was local Saguaro expert Daniel Elias. Daniel also brought in four fish for a total of 11.79lbs to take home $840. Daniel reported catching his fish shallow fairly early in the day. When our on the water crew caught up with Daniel he was trying some deeper water and getting ready to head back shallow.
Finishing the day in third place was Tonto Basins Victor Cunningham bringing in the days only limit for 9.04lbs. Victor was fishing Yamamoto hula grubs and dropshotting in approximately 12′ of water to get his bites. Third place took home a Cashion CRT series rod for first out of the money.
Fourth place went to Steve Jenkins. Steve only managed to bring in two fish, but one of those was a 7.62lb monster that was good enough for $250 in big fish money for the day. Steve’s total weight was 8.87lbs.
Rounding out the top 5 with 6.41lbs for three fish was Nathan Foreman.
The Cashion Cup Solo Series is a new format and concept for Arizona fisherman. The anglers we talked to loved the format and all expect a bigger turnout at Roosevelt Lake April 17, 2021 for the second event of the season. I would like to thank the anglers that came out and supported this first event. It is always fun coming up with new formats and I can’t thank Cashion Rods enough for coming on board as the sponsor for these events. If you are looking for a light, sensitive, American made fishing rod be sure to check out the Cashion lineup. You will not be disappointed.
